As a person who has a sweet tooth, there are no limits to the sugary delights you can savor. Simple yet notable among some of the popular sweet preparations is the Twinkie, a highly revered junk food in the US. With about 500 million produced each year, a Twinkie’s appeal lies in a soft, golden exterior and a rich, creamy interior.
Created by Hostess, and baked by Continental Baking Co., which is owned by Kansas City-based Interstate Bakeries Corporation, the Twinkie found its way into the markets and people’s hearts as long as 70 years ago. The Twinkies which were sold in pre-World War-II era contained solely a banana-creme filling which then went on to be replaced by a vanilla-creme filling owing to the shortage of bananas during the World War-II.
However, this month Hostess launched the original banana-flavored version of the Twinkie again. This decision comes after following sales of banana-flavored Twinkies in a time-limited promotion strategy. When banana Twinkies were launched for a short period of time and pulled-off the shelves, the sales were shown to escalate by 20%. Owing to this popularity, the makers of the famous Twinkie decided to go in for a permanent launch of the banana-creme Twinkie.
Many loyal fans of the Twinkie consider this launch of banana-flavored Twinkie a good decision and some even think of it as a healthier option than the vanilla-flavored Twinkie. Although there is not much of a difference in the nutritional value of the two, which is about 150 calories, the general perception of banana Twinkie among the consumers is better and this is bound to go down well with sales of this version of the Twinkie.
